Kiddos in the Recording Studio!
It’s a joyful thing to have kiddos in the studio. They add to any environment a dynamic of sincere appreciation and gratefulness that has no rival. Their ability to be in the moment reminds you that even in the day to day minutiae of completing tasks there is always time to enjoy life and take a breath.
Two years in a row we’ve had the privilege to host some pretty amazing students for an epic day at the studio. They prepared in advance a song they composed with lyrics, instruments, and arrangements of their own. They wrote this song during their music class at school.
Morning
These wonderful students are from Crown of Life Lutheran School in Colleyville, TX. During the spring of 2016, they waltzed into Drive 35 studios at 9:30AM, ready to go with melodies, harmonies, piano, bass, and percussion. They spent the morning stacking vocal tracks, filtering in between grade, 7th, then 8th graders. They also switched in to highlight the ladies’ voices, then the gentlemen’s voices.
Lunch Time
At noon they finished their vocals, listened back, then headed outside for a picnic lunch. It was pretty rad to see a ton of kids spread out on the grass on blankets or sitting on the curb, just, you know, enjoying life and noshing on peanut butter sandwiches. Afterwards, they came inside, and all 22 of them, plus parents, poured into the tracking room called Studio A.
Wrapping Up
They were packed in like edamame, and chose what type of drum beats they wanted, which Joe Sanchez the owner, perfectly laid down in one take. They added bass guitar, and piano, as well. It was a successful and celebratory day! And what’s even cooler is that they came back a second day.
A whole year later, spring 2017, they had translated their beautiful song “Melting My Heart,” into Spanish. “Me tocas mi corazón.” Very impressive project for a 7th and 8th grade first year Spanish level. If you’d like to listen here is the link to their very first song. We’ll have the Spanish one at a later date. Ciao!
