Where to record? Know your project.
Where to record? Let’s talk about why it’s important to record locally.
Know Your Project
It’s a good idea to know all the ins and outs of your project. This will help you better know your costs. You need to know all the facets of what instruments and vocals you will want on your song or album. Also, make sure to know how many tracks of each you’re going to want, and even how many people you are going to have coming into the studio.
Money Money Money
That being said, let’s talk about what studios are probably going to be more expensive. If you’re going to go to Nashville or L.A., be prepared to save all your pennies, and eat $0.88 pasta for a year. And you probably will need to bring your own producer, flying them out, and paying them of course.
Sure you could have their in-house producer take care of your project, but they’re not going to be as passionate about your project as someone that you already know. Not to say that your music isn’t fabulous, it’s just, having someone pumped about what you do, is going to make the studio experience that much more enjoyable.
Also you need to be thinking about what type of mastering you might need as well. This also incurs other costs, too.
So it might be best for you to travel a shorter distance, to people who will be able to get to know you a little better, and get hyped about your music. Plus costs will be a littler cheaper, less traveling, more in-house, etc.
Get some hype! You deserve it!
Here’s the exciting thing about Drive 35, is that we LOVE musicians, and love to support art. What’s really great is that we like to work with you on your budget and figure out what it is exactly, precisely, that you want on your album, so we can figure out all the costs, and then try to find a way to get the most for your recording. We want to help you out, because we love music, too.
We’ll help you!
For example maybe you don’t have to hire a whole bunch of session musicians, maybe you can just get one person, who plays a lot of different instruments well. This will help because you’re only paying one person, instead of a lot of people. Does that make sense?
You worked so hard.
You spent all of this time writing, playing, agonizing over the lyrics, choosing the chords, performing the songs, so why would you just want to have someone do your project for money? Wouldn’t you want someone to do as good a job, or better, on your record, AND be super stoked about you as an artist? I know I would!
We love new projects, and all the people who’ve come in to our studio before, and we can’t wait to get hyped about your project, too.
